Trước hết xin cám ơn Chiều Tím về chương trình “Một chút jazz...” nói chung, các ca khúc của Diana Krall nói riêng.

Thứ đến, xin phép điều chỉnh lại tựa đề video clip: đây là buổi trình diễn live của Diana Krall tại Montréal (Canada) chứ không phải ở Montreux (Thụy-sĩ). Trên YouTube cũng có video Diana Krall trình diễn tại Montreux, nhưng ngắn hơn (chưa tới 60 phút).

Trong số tất cả mọi buổi trình diễn live của Diana Krall, tôi thích nhất buổi trình diễn tại hí viện Olympia ở Paris cuối năm 2001. CD và DVD phát hành năm 2002, đoạt giải Grammy năm 2003.

Trong buổi trình diễn này, tôi mê nhất là hai bản “Cry me a river” và “The Look of love”. Có thể vì ngày ấy Diana Krall còn son trẻ, chưa lấy chồng nên hát hay hơn khi đã lấy chồng và có con; nhưng cũng rất có thể vì bản thân tôi chỉ mê những “bông hoa biết hát chưa có chủ” nên nhận xét chủ quan, thiên vị?!

Chỉ biết một điều chắc chắn: CD và DVD “Diana Krall - Live in Paris” là CD và DVD có số bán cao nhất trong sự nghiệp của cô, tính cho tới nay.

Một lần nữa, xin cám ơn Chiều Tím – người không hề sợ ma (nên mới dám nghe jazz... trong bóng tối!)

Shirley Horn (1934-2005) là một bông hoa hiếm quý trong làng nhạc jazz của Hoa Kỳ, vừa hát vừa tự đệm dương cầm cho mình. Xưa nay không ít nữ nghệ sĩ cũng có khả năng đó, như Carole King, Diana Krall, nhưng Shirley Horn đã vượt lên trên tất cả, tuyệt vời tới mức nếu chỉ “nghe” chứ không “nhìn”, người ta sẽ tưởng rằng tiếng hát là của Shirley Horn, còn tiếng đàn là của một danh thủ dương cầm nào đó. Cho nên nhạc trưởng nổi tiếng Johnny Mandel mới nhận xét: Shirley Horn “như có hai cái đầu” (like having two heads)...
