Bears tight end Martellus Bennett wants to punch Brandon Meriweather in the face.
Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather joked about the fines he would likely receive after he delivered two vicious hits against the Chicago Bears this past Sunday.

Bears tight end Martellus Bennett is not laughing.
Meriweather received a two-game suspension by the NFL after malicious hits on Bears receivers Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall. He was penalized for unnecessary roughness in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against Chicago for a forcible helmet-to-helmet hit on a defenseless receiver (Jeffery) and again in the fourth quarter for a forcible hit to the head and neck area of a defenseless receiver (Marshall).

In Week 2 against the Green Bay Packers, Meriweather delivered an illegal hit with the top/crown of the helmet to a runner who was outside the tackle box. He was fined $42,000 for that violation.
Bennett was a guest on Chicago’s 670 this past Monday, and expressed his dissatisfaction with Meriweather (c/o The Washington Post).
“You got out of there without getting clobbered illegally by Brandon Meriweather, so that’s a victory,” one of the segment’s hosts said.
“Oh, I still want to punch him in the face,” Bennett said.
“Well, he got suspended two games,” a host said.
“We don’t get any of his money,” Bennett noted.
When the host discussed Meriweather joking about the potential fine, Bennett’s irritation continued.
“The scumbag,” Bennett said, before talking more seriously about the issue. “What it comes down to, at the end of the day, the players have got to look out for the players. There’s a way to go out there and be a beast when you hit people, and have nobody want to come across the middle. But then there’s a way not to do it, where you’re deliberately hitting guys [high], or after the game you’re saying, Oh, I’ve got to pay, because you know what you did was wrong when you were doing it. Then it just becomes wrong. It’s not ignorance, because he knows what he’s doing, or guys know what they’re doing. Some guys are making these attacks on other guys.”
Washington does not play Chicago again this season, so Bennett’s punch must wait.
Instead, Bennett must be content with the NFL slapping Meriweather this past Monday.Comment
